Rebuilding the Railway (2)

The slightly raised section is a feature of the large return loop and also ensures there is no need for gradients on the new out-and-back line.

Despite this being a raised section, the railway is still close enough to ground level to benefit from the landscaping and surrounding planting.

Basic track laying and ballasting on the return loop have been completed. As part of later development the straight section with six bays to the left of this picture will eventually be replaced with a proper bridge structure. For now, though, this section permits through running of trains.

As well as being simpler in design, our new railway is more closely integrated with the garden. The old wooden line completely monopolised this area.
