F501: Power Bogie Test

Photo: F500-10.jpg (14K)

An historic moment. The motorised bogie moves under its own power for the very first time!

Before testing, the gearbox had been topped up with axle grease and all bearings oiled thoroughly. The test runs were an astonishing success.

I used a plastic cable tie to strap the supply leads against the motor case close to the bogie pivot. This helps to avoid strain on the soldered joints through rotation of the bogie when the loco is in motion - which might eventually have led to failure of one of the joints.
